Saint John Transit is under budget by almost 26 thousand dollars in spite of declines in ridership, hours of service and revenue but expenses are also down by 142 thousand dollars.
The President of local 1182 of the Amalgamated Transit Union, Tom McGraw says the bus service is in a holding pattern and he doesn’t expect to see any big infusion of new funding by Common Council.
The search is on for a new general manager with longtime G-M Frank McCarey expected to leave in the spring. McGraw is hoping a new general manager will bring along new ideas.
Last year at this time, the Transit Commission was looking at a budget shortfall of at least 400 thousand dollars.
