The Atlantica Centre for Energy is urging the provincial government to lift the moratorium on natural gas development in New Brunswick.
President Colleen Mitchell says onshore oil and gas extraction has been an integral part of many New Brunswick communities since the 1800’s.
Mitchell says as the government explores ways to address its long term goals, the immediate goal should be putting people back to work.
She says we need to differentiate between short term goals versus long term goals.
Mitchell says it’s unreasonable to stop a company like Corridor Resources, in the greater Sussex area, from working because they’ve been operating successfully for over a decade with environmental and health and safety records that are “exemplary”.
