There appears to be some skepticism among Common Councillors about how much tax revenue will be generated for the city by the Energy East pipeline. The estimate given to Common Council is 5 million dollars but Councillor Donna Reardon says five million dollars annually isn’t enough to entice her.
Councillor at Large Shirley McAlary says if the five million dollar a year estimate doesn’t come to pass, it would be a big downer for the city.
Saint John-Rothesay Conservative candidate Rodney Weston has made Energy East one of his campaign promises. Liberal candidate Wayne Long has also come out in favour and tried to refute charges by the Conservatives that party leader Justice Trudeau is opposed.
