Thousands of New Brunswickers remain without electricity after high winds battered the province on Sunday.
NB Power reports that approximately 1,600 homes and businesses are without power as of 5:00 p.m. Monday.
This is down from a peak of more than 33,000 customers early Sunday evening.
“In total, about 57,000 customers were affected by the weather event,” the utility said in a social media post Monday morning.
Most of the outages continue to be in western and northeastern parts of the province, according to the utility’s website.
NB Power said it could be midday Tuesday before all customers have their electricity restored.
“We currently have around 500 people supporting the restoration efforts,” said the social media post.
In response to questions about estimated restoration times, NB Power provided clarity in a separate social media post about the challenges crews are facing.
“Right now, there are many outages, each affecting a small number of customers, which can make restoration efforts more time-consuming. Our teams are working as safely and efficiently as possible to restore power to all customers,” the utility said.
