Applications are once again being accepted for the New Brunswick Low-Income Seniors’ Benefit.
Residents who receive an Old Age Security benefit can apply to get a one-time payment of $616.
This year’s benefit is nearly three per cent higher than what seniors received through the program last year.
“We recognize that many low-income seniors face financial challenges, particularly with the rising cost of living,” Lyne Chantal Boudreau, minister responsible for seniors, said in a news release.
“This program provides much-needed support, helping more than 50,000 seniors across the province manage their household expenses. We are committed to ensuring they receive this assistance quickly and efficiently.”
To qualify, you must be at least 60 years old and receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement, Allowance Program or Allowance for the Survivor Program.
Only one benefit will be issued per household, but if spouses live separately — such as one residing in a nursing home — then both will be eligible.
Applications will be accepted online or through a Service New Brunswick location until Dec. 31.
