The provincial and federal governments have finalized a $150 million, 10-year funding agreement under the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund.
This agreement focuses on the infrastructure of New Brunswick, particularly addressing critical areas such as drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste systems.
“This funding will help us accelerate housing development for residents, addressing urgent infrastructure needs and supporting our community’s growth,” Housing Minister David Hickey said in a government release.
This new funding builds on previous financial commitments to infrastructure development.
Over $50 million has already been allocated to water infrastructure projects across the province, aiming to improve the quality and reliability of these vital services.
Ginette Petitpas Taylor, the president of the federal treasury board, also highlighted in the release the importance of constructing more homes at a quicker pace.
Taylor explained investing in critical infrastructure will support the growth and development of New Brunswick’s communities.
