The council of Fundy Shores has announced the formation of the Community Complex Needs Assessment Committee.
This committee aims to shape the future services of Fundy Shores by identifying the community’s recreation, social, and cultural needs, assessing existing facilities, and gathering input from residents and stakeholders.
Mayor Denny Cogswell explained they also wanted to form this to help the development of a new community complex on 40 acres of land purchased by the municipality last year.
The committee is still in the process of being formed, with a deadline for applications set for March 17.
The council was motivated by community engagement initiatives within the first 90 days of the new government, resulting in the development of a working document that details community needs.
“We want the community engaged for all their ideas, whether good or bad, we want all the necessary input,” Cogswell said.
He added that the top four areas that the community has requested the committee to focus on are:
- Child care expansion
- Health care
- Fitness
- Office space
Cogswell explained the goal is to have eight members representing different areas who will work closely with senior staff, contractors, and engineers.
The findings will be presented to the council for recommendations and decisions.
“The community’s engagement is key to creating a space that truly meets our needs and brings us together. This project is an exciting opportunity for Fundy Shores to grow and thrive,” Cogswell said.
He expressed his excitement about the committee, emphasizing its role in creating a space that brings people together and enhances the quality of life for all in Fundy Shores.
“This will be a valuable asset for years, and hopefully decades, to come. We are excited to see the committee formed and begin the next phase,” he said.
The committee’s work is expected to take about 10 months, with the first meeting scheduled for early April.
