Dozens of investigators continue to look into the cause of Monday’s plane crash at the Toronto Pearson Airport.
Twenty-one people were hospitalized after a Delta plane from Minneapolis crashed while landing at the airport.
Ken Webster, a senior investigator with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB), said the plane “impacted” the runway during landing.
“Following this initial impact, parts of the aircraft separated and a fire ensued,” Webster said in a video update from the scene on Tuesday.
“The fuselage came to rest slightly off the right side of the runway, upside down, facing the other direction.”
More than 20 investigators from the TSB are on the scene, with support from Transport Canada, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board, the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and Delta Air Lines.
Webster said the flight data recorder has already been removed from the aircraft and sent off for analysis as part of the investigation.
“At this point, it’s far too early to say what the cause of this accident might be. However, we will share more information once we’re able to,” he said.
Of the 21 people who were hospitalized, 19 of them had been released as of Tuesday morning, according to a social media post from Delta.
