The latest round of wintry weather is bringing a mix of precipitation to parts of New Brunswick and heavy snow elsewhere.
Special weather statements remain in effect for southern regions of the province, including:
- Charlotte County, including St. Stephen and Grand Manan
- Fundy National Park
- Moncton and southeast New Brunswick
- Saint John and County
- Sussex, Kennebecasis Valley and Kings County
Up to 15 centimetres of snow is expected, with lesser amounts along the Fundy coast, before a changeover to ice pellets or freezing rain Thursday afternoon or evening.
The rest of the province is under a snowfall warning and could see 20 to 35 centimetres of snow, with locally higher amounts in northern New Brunswick.
Forecasters said the snow is expected to mix with ice pellets Thursday afternoon and evening over Queens, Sunbury and southern York counties.
Transportation
Road conditions have deteriorated throughout much of the province and New Brunswick RCMP are urging people to stay home if they can.
“If you must be out on the roads today, travel with caution,” the police force said in a social media post.
You can find the latest highway conditions through New Brunswick 511.
It is best to check ahead if you have a flight scheduled for Thursday.
Delays and cancellations are being reported at the Greater Moncton International Airport, the Saint John Airport and the Fredericton International Airport.
School closures
Schools across the province were closed for the day, along with NBCC campuses in Saint Andrews, Saint John, Woodstock and Miramichi, and CCNB campuses in Bathurst, Campbellton, Edmundston and the Acadian Peninsula.
All Oulton College campuses were also closed for the day but classes continued online. The Moncton campus of l’Université de Moncton closed its doors at noon.
Gusty winds and another storm?
Strong winds will continue on Friday with gusts 60 to 70 kilometres per hour, or even 80 kilometres in exposed areas in the south, according to Environment Canada.
The weather agency is also monitoring another weather system for Sunday, which could bring more winter weather to the region.
