Even Cupid is struggling with high prices.
According to a BMO Valentine’s Day report, 56% of Canadians say the rising cost of living is affecting dating.
Many surveyed said they’re going on fewer dates and/or planning less-expensive activities.
Forty-two per cent of single Canucks admitted to adjusting their dating plans for financial reasons, while nearly a third have cancelled a date to save money.
Sixty per cent are not willing to spend money on dating apps or match-making services, but those who do, will only pay roughly $16 annually.
The survey also found Canadians spend an average of $174 for each date on things like grooming, food and entertainment.
That compares to $134 spent by Atlantic Canadians.
Is it even worth it though? About 41% of singles in this country often left a first date feeling it was a waste of time and money.
Canadians say they have gone on 10 to 21 dates before committing to a partner, meaning they could spend around $3,600 on dating before making a relationship official.
Here in the Atlantic provinces, romance seekers have gone on an average of 10-20 dates, forking out about $2,600 before they officially become an item.
