Pictou County District RCMP have charged a Miramichi, New Brunswick, man with attempted murder after a vehicle struck a man in MacPhersons Mills earlier this month.
On February 4, just before 1 p.m., RCMP received a report from New Brunswick that someone had been hit by a stolen GMC Sierra in Thorburn.
Officers searched the area but did not find a vehicle or victim.
An hour later, police were called to MacPhersons Mills, where a man was found injured on a dead-end road beside an abandoned stolen truck. He told officers he had seen someone taking his Chevrolet Silverado from his driveway and followed the tire tracks in the snow. He was then hit twice by his own stolen truck before the driver fled.
Investigators determined the Chevrolet was headed toward Miramichi. The next day, Miramichi Police Force located the vehicle and arrested the driver.
A 35-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault, break and enter, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, driving while prohibited, and failure to comply with a court order.
He was brought back to Nova Scotia and remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear in Pictou Provincial Court.
