RCMP have confirmed that one person is dead following a home invasion in Berry Mills, near Moncton.
Officers responded to a report of a home invasion at a residence on Isaiah Street just before 6 a.m. Thursday.
Three people forcibly entered a home occupied by a man and a woman, both in their 30s.
Police say an altercation occurred, resulting in the death of an unidentified man.
By the time police arrived at the scene, two suspects had already fled in a black 2018 Dodge Ram 2500.
A provincewide emergency alert was issued in connection with the incident around 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
Officers also reported that a light-coloured Ford F150 is also believed to have been involved in the incident.
Police say the original person named in the alert is no longer considered a suspect.
They believe this was a targeted incident and there is no longer a risk to the public. The emergency alert has since concluded.
“We are looking to speak with anyone who was travelling in the Berry Mills area during the early morning hours of February 6, 2025,” Cpl. Hans Ouellette of the New Brunswick RCMP said.
“If you have dash-cam or other video footage from the area at the time of the incident, please call the police.”
Anyone with information or believes they see one of the trucks involved should call 911 or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Schools on hold and secure
Several schools in the Anglophone East School District were placed in hold and secure due to the police operation, including:
- Evergreen Park School
- Northrup Frye School
- Maplehurst Middle School
- Magnetic Hill School
- Salisbury Elementary School
- Salisbury Regional School
- Havelock School
- Petitcodiac Regional School
“Hold and Secure means movement inside the school is as usual, but nobody is permitted to enter or exit while it is in place,” Stephanie Patterson, a spokesperson for the district said in an email to our newsroom.
Patterson added that the superintendent enacted the hold-and-secure “out of care and caution,” and the RCMP did not direct them to do so.
