A 16-year-old boy has been arrested after a four-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted at a Saint John trampoline park.
City police officers responded to reports of a fight at the business, located on the city’s east side, at around 1 p.m. on Sunday.
“A female witness heard children yelling and observed a male youth assaulting a young female child,” police said in a Monday news release.
“The accused then assaulted the 24-year-old female witness who came to the assistance of the young victim. ”
Other customers intervened and an off-duty police officer, who happened to be at the park, arrested the accused until uniformed officers arrived.
The young girl was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening physical injuries and later released. Police said the woman who came to help suffered minor physical injuries.
The accused is scheduled to appear in court at a later date, according to the news release.
The business was closed for the rest of the day while officers processed the scene and detectives interviewed witnesses.
