A man has been charged with first-degree murder after two boys were found dead in a home in Saint John’s north end.
But investigators are remaining tight-lipped about what happened inside of the residence where the bodies were discovered.
Saint John police said said they responded to a 911 call on Skaling Court, off McIntosh Street, around 7 a.m. Wednesday.
“Officers arrived and immediately forced entry into the home and located two deceased male youth, ages 10 and 17,” police said in a news release on Thursday.
A 46-year-old man was found inside the home with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to the hospital and remains under police custody.
Staff Sgt. Sarah Hobbs confirmed that the Crown has approved two counts of first-degree murder again the man, who will appear in court at a later date.
“The accused was known to the victims and police have no further concerns for public safety,” Hobbs told reporters during a news conference Thursday afternoon.
But police are not saying how the accused knew the victims, how the two boys died or whether the man’s wounds were self-inflicted.
“We will not be releasing any information that would identify the victims in this investigation at this time,” said Hobbs, citing the ongoing investigation and court proceedings.
Hobbs would also not say where the 911 call came from or if there was anyone else inside of the residence when police arrived on the scene.
“This is very heartbreaking. It’s a tragic incident that happened here within Saint John, within our community,” she said, offering her condolences to the family and friends of the victims.
The media relations officer said internal supports were immediately made available for officers who were involved with the call.
Officers remained on the scene Thursday afternoon continuing to collect evidence as part of the investigation, which involves the Saint John Police Force’s forensic identification services, major crime unit and family protection unit, as well as Coroner Services.
