The Navy has now identified the sailor who died in Halifax waters on Friday.
On Friday night, two sailors were in a small boat in the Bedford Basin when their vessel overturned and sank.
A small boat coxswain was treated in hospital and released, but Gregory Applin tragically died.
He was a 2nd class Petty Officer and a weapons engineering technician serving on the HMCS Montreal.
Applin joined the Navy in 2005 and sailed for nearly 500 days aboard HMC ships.
The Navy says he leaves behind a loving family and many friends and colleagues.
HMCS Montreal as now taken pause on their operations to give the crew time to grief PO2 Applin.
The Canadian Forces National Investigation Service is investigating, which is standard procedure following such incidents.
