The Saint John Police Force is once again searching for a new deputy chief.
Honey Dwyer retired in August, a spokesperson confirmed to our newsroom.
Dwyer, who was sworn in as deputy chief in July 2022, was only in the role for about two years.
Officials said she was the highest-ranking female officer in the force’s history.
A posting for the deputy police chief job went up on the city’s website on Monday.
It said the force is seeking someone with at least 10 years of senior police management experience and “a history of championing high levels of member and community engagement.”
“As a strategic communicator, you have a proven record of achieving organizational, public service and change management excellence,” said the post.
“You are highly regarded as an inclusive relationship builder that places great value on earning the confidence of others through leveraging team building, community engagement, and nurturing strong external partnerships and stakeholders.”
Applications for the job are being accepted until Feb. 10. No timeframe has been given for when a new deputy chief will be in place.
Insp. Mike Young is serving as acting deputy chief for the time being, according to the police spokesperson.
