The Serious Incident Response Team (SiRT) has determined that RCMP officers did not use excessive force during an arrest near Sackville, New Brunswick, in November 2023.
On November 22, members of the RCMP’s Emergency Response Team carried out a search warrant at a home connected to firearms and drugs.
The man living there had an outstanding warrant, a history of violence, and was known to police.
When officers arrived, the man tried to run but was quickly caught. He resisted arrest, and during the struggle, he ended up with a dislocated elbow and a fracture.
The RCMP reported the incident to SiRT that same day, and an investigation was launched.
After reviewing the details, SiRT found the force used by officers was reasonable given the situation.
SiRT handles investigations involving serious injuries, deaths, or allegations of police misconduct in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
Full report details can be found on the SiRT website.
