Irving Tissue is planning a massive expansion of its facility in Macon, Georgia.
This is as the Dieppe-based company celebrates its fifth anniversary in the U.S. community.
The $600-million USD expansion will include a third ThruAir Dry paper-making machine to increase output.
In addition, there will be more converting lines at the facility and a new fully automated warehouse.
“On top of the growth in Macon, this investment will also provide growth in our home region of the northeast – Maine and New Brunswick,” said Robert K. Irving, president of Irving Tissue and co-CEO of parent company J.D. Irving, Ltd.
“Pulp will be supplied from our pulp mill in Saint John, which in turn is supplied from the six million acres we sustainably own or manage.”
Irving Tissue’s plant in Macon currently employs more than 400 people and the expansion is expected to add another 100 jobs.
It will also increase the company’s ThruAir Dry capacity by 75,000 tonnes, the equivalent of 15 million cases. The total annual capacity at the Macon plant will now be 225,000 tonnes or 45 million cases.
