A 36-year-old Moncton woman has been arrested in Ottawa on numerous human trafficking related charges.
An investigation was launched in March by several policing divisions including the Ontario Provincial Police Anti-Human Trafficking Unit & Intelligence Led Joint Forces Strategy and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Codiac Crime Reduction Unit.
It is believed offences occurred between September 2019 and February of this year, and the investigation began with one victim.
Cynthia Caissie is charged with:
- Trafficking in Persons by exercising control
- Material benefit in trafficking
- Material benefit from sexual services
- Procuring
- Utter threats
- Assault, Assault with a weapon and Assault Cause Bodily Harm
- Possession of a weapon
- Mischief to property
- Advertising another person’s sexual services
- Withhold travel or identity document trafficking a person over
- Utter forged passport
The accused appeared in court in Ottawa this month and remains in custody.
Investigators believe there are other victims of human trafficking related to this investigation. Caissie is alleged to have used the alias ‘Bailey’. Ottawa Police have released a photo of the accused to help locate other victims.
