The HMCS Ride for Wishes returns this weekend for the first time since the pandemic began.
Ten crew members from HMCS Fredericton members will cycle across the province to raise money for Make-A-Wish Canada.
Sandi Hancox, executive director of the New Brunswick chapter of Make-A-Wish Canada, said the expedition will begin in Campbellton.
Hancox said the members will cycle more than 550 kilometres before ending their journey in Fredericton next Friday.
“Along the way, they’re going to be stopping in various communities and doing some fundraising to raise funds to grant wishes to children who’ve been diagnosed with a critical illness,” Hancox told our newsroom.
Stops along the way include Bathurst, Miramichi, Moncton, Saint John and Oromocto.
This is the 12th year for the event, which has not taken place since 2019 due to the pandemic.
Hancox said the team of volunteers is hoping to raise at least $30,000 this year.
“The average cost of a wish is about $10,000 and right now we actually have more than 30 children that are waiting to have their wish granted in New Brunswick,” she said.
