The Fundy Trail Parkway opened for the first time on Friday underĀ provincial government ownership.
The Fundy Trail Development Authority oversaw the parkway since 1998 before the ownership changed in December.
Melanie Deveau, assistant deputy minister for parks and tourism, says major changes include better education programs
“For this season, we will see an increase in conservation efforts. Our Parks New Brunswick team has significant experience and a wealth of knowledge around conservation and climate change,” says Deveau.
Residents and tourists can experience the 30-kilometre linear park by car, bike or hiking trails and experience the coast from a whole different viewpoint. Over 6,300 acres can be explored, according to the park’s website.
Deveau says the small communities connected to the parkway such as St. Martins, Sussex, and Alma will benefit greatly from the expected 70,000 to 100,000 visitors for the season.
Officials also tentatively hope to open the Fundy Trail Parkway’s campground on Canada Day.
