Get ready for traffic headaches if you are travelling to Fredericton in the coming weeks.
The Princess Margaret Bridge will be fully closed for about five weeks starting on May 10.
It is one of two bridges in Fredericton that connect the north and south sides of the city.
Provincial officials said the closure is required for needed resurfacing and repairs on the bridge.
“This work is necessary to prevent further deterioration of the bridge surface, which could lead to more significant repairs and costs,” Transportation Minister Richard Ames said in a news release.
Asphalt on the bridge has been deteriorating for the past few years, and some short-term patching was done last fall to maintain the surface, according to the province.
Ames said if the work is not done this year, there could be further costly damage to the structure.
