Tributes continue to pour in for a well-loved former New Brunswick MLA and community volunteer.
Sue Stultz of Riverview passed away on Monday at the age of 71 following a lengthy illness.
Stultz was a one-term Progressive Conservative MLA in Moncton West from 2010 to 2014 and served as the province’s social development minister.
However, it was her impact on the community outside of the legislature that many people remember most.
“Just her care for the community and wanting to help out and her compassion. I consider myself fortunate to have met her and her being part of my life,” said Ashley Graham, president of the Moncton Firefighters Association.
Known to many as the “Turkey Lady,” Stultz launched a turkey drive more than 30 years ago to ensure everyone in southeastern New Brunswick had a turkey on their table at Christmas time.
Stultz later partnered with the Moncton Firefighters Association to continue donating turkeys to anyone in need.
Graham met Stultz 21 years ago when he was hired by the Moncton Fire Department. He said her passion was contagious and made others want to give back to the community.
“Giving back to the community, that’s what she was about. It wasn’t about Sue, it was about the community,” he said.
Progressive Conservative Premier Blaine Higgs also sent his condolences in a statement issued Tuesday.
Higgs said Stultz volunteered in many capacities over her lifetime, touching countless lives, and was recognized for her service with numerous awards.
“Her devotion to her family, friends and community will long be remembered,” the premier said in the statement.
Visitation for Stultz will be held at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Riverview on Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. The Royal Canadian Legion, Moncton Branch #6, will also hold a memorial service at 5:30 p.m. from the funeral home.
A service celebrating her life will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. from the funeral home. The service will be live-streamed and recorded.
