New Brunswick’s labour minister says they are supporting employees impacted by last week’s fire at Covered Bridge Potato Chips.
Greg Turner said they have spoken with the employee union and are in the process of arranging support however they can.
In addition, WorkingNB will be partnering with Service Canada to host an event in the community in the immediate future, said Turner.
“This event will provide assistance to the employees who may require income supports from the federal government as well as the support of WorkingNB’s employment counsellors,” he said in a statement to our newsroom.
WorkingNB is also providing free counselling services to employees who may be struggling to cope with this sudden event.
Meanwhile, Turner said he has asked staff at Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour and at Opportunities New Brunswick to connect with the owners “so we can understand how we might be able to assist them during this period.”
“In the coming days, and as things become clearer, we will determine what other supports we may be able to provide to the community,” said the minister.
Friday evening’s fire destroyed the company’s production facility in Waterville, near Hartland, which employs around 100 people.
