The New Brunswick Museum revitalization project in Saint John has hit another big milestone.
Museum officials have unveiled their temporary research and collections centre on Lancaster Avenue.
“The opening of this new facility creates the space we need to move our collections out of our existing locations — in particular Douglas Avenue – in preparation for the construction phase of the project,” said Brent Suttie, the museum’s chief operating officer.
Officials said the state-of-the-art facility provides optimal environmental conditions for safeguarding priceless artifacts.
William Forrestall, interim chair of the museum’s board, said the diligent efforts and meticulous care exhibited by museum staff is a testament to their dedication.
“As we prepare for the Revitalization project, every artifact is handled with utmost care, ensuring its preservation for the enjoyment of future museum-goers and New Brunswickers of all ages,” said Forrestall.
“The commitment of our staff underscores our collective responsibility to safeguard and pass on the rich cultural legacy of our community.”
In July, the museum announced that the revitalized facility would be located in its original home on Douglas Avenue.
It is expected to open sometime in 2026 with a price tag of around $150 million.
