The school year just started and teachers in New Brunswick have a new deal after they voted in favour of ratifying the latest tentative agreement with the province.
Over 86 percent of the nearly 8,000 teachers who voted were in favour of the agreement. The New Brunswick Teachers Federation applauded its members for exercising their right to vote and staying committed to reaching a fair deal throughout the negotiation process.
“We’ve worked hard to reach an agreement, and now we’re ready to continue our work on important issues in public education,” said NBTF Co-President Stéphanie Babineau.
The provincial government says more details about the specifics of the deal will be release once it is officially signed into effect.
“As a government, we appreciate the valuable work that teachers do every day in our schools and are very pleased that the tentative agreement has now been formally ratified,” said Finance and Treasury Board Minister Ernie Steeves in a press release.
The next round of negotiations will be two years from now, when the deal expires.
