Atlantic Canada lost a well-known business leader over the holiday weekend.
70-year-old Kay Wheaton died on Christmas Eve after a battle with cancer.
Her obituary described her as “the creative force behind Wheaton’s” noting her appreciation of beautiful things and her knack for selecting selecting merchandise which made the business successful.
Wheaton started the chain of stores which bear her name in Berwick, Nova Scotia in 1990.
A second store was added in Moncton a few years later and four more would follow in Lower Sackville, Darmouth Crossing, Fredericton and in Saint John.
In 2016, fire destroyed the flagship store at the Shaw Road in Berwick but, with support from customers and the community it was rebuilt.
Kay Wheaton is survived by her husband, Garnett, two sons, two daughters and thirteen grandchildren.
She was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Kay Wheaton on Friday, December 30th at 11 a.m. at the New Minas Baptist Church in New Minas, Nova Scotia.
