After a two-year hiatus, the Kennebecasis Valley Remembrance Day Parade and Ceremony will return to the qplex in Quispamsis.
The entire event is held within the qplex and those who are part of the parade include veterans and members from Royal Canadian Legion Kennebecasis Branch #58, Base Gagetown, and local firefighters and police officers.
“Our local sea and naval league cadets will be on parade, the firefighter’s pipe band will be on parade, members from the Freemasons and the Shriners will be on parade,” said Brian Eisan, president of RCL Kennebecasis Branch #58.
Eisan said he is glad to see the ceremony back at the qplex and anticipates roughly 2,200 residents to attend.
“It’s important because our veterans, especially our Second World War veterans, are down to a handful of them left in the Valley if that, and they are fading away quickly,” he said.
Cpl. (ret’d) George Cooper, one of the last remaining Second World War veterans, will be this year’s Reviewing Officer. Cooper will be laying a wreath on behalf of the fallen comrades.
Others who will be laying wreaths include Premier Blaine Higgs, MP Rob Moore, Quispamsis Mayor Libby O’Hara, and Rothesay Mayor Nancy Grant.
The ceremony begins at 10:30 a.m. on Friday.
