A shortage of French teachers is no longer a problem and should not impact the immersion program according to an advocacy group, Canadian Parents for French New Brunswick.
CPF NB executive director Chris Collins said while the program could always use more teachers, there has been a shift in recent years.
“French training has been so unstable that people who are qualified to teach French immersion are leaving the Anglophone system and going to the Francophone system where it is more stable,” he noted.
“Teachers are really frustrated with having to change the way they teach every couple of years, according to what government happens to be in power.”
Canadian Parents for French New Brunswick is striving to save the immersion program and has launched a petition on their website for those who wish to add their name.
