Universities and colleges across Canada will soon be welcoming post-secondary students for another year.
While campuses fill up with students, students are facing higher expenses with inflation reaching a 30-year high and the cost of tuition continuing to increase.
To address these expenses for students, SolveYourDebts.com has shared several tips to save students money during the school year.
“Make a budget, figure out what you’ll need for school. Whether you’re living at home or residence, there are lots of expenses that you have to consider,” said Susan Eisner, CEO of SolveYourDebts.com.
“So, make that budget, review it often, make sure you’re staying on track, make sure you’re not spending more in a certain area than you budgeted for because you may need to adjust,” continued Eisner.
Eisner mentioned while students want to focus on their studies, a part-time job might be necessary.
“But you have to make sure that you’re not taking on more than you can manage. However, there are some employers out there that offer incentives for tuition and school depending on your field of study.”
Another tip for students to save money this school year is to not go out to eat as much and cook from home.
“Eating out can add up, so make as many meals as possible from home. Possibly doing some meal planning will help you, so when you head to the grocery store you will only buy what you need,” mentioned Eisner.
Other tips include applying for scholarships or grants, buying and selling used textbooks, and making coffee from home.
