The moon will have some company in Uptown Saint John on Saturday.
The fifth edition of the Moonlight Bazaar includes the red planet and will see the event grow to include more streets.
The original Moonlight Bazaar was inspired in part by an event co-founders Lauchlan Ough and Jody Kliffer attended in Brooklyn, New York.
Ough said for a long time they tried to find an interior space for it but, eventually decided to host an outdoor event.
“Our first one we did. We found this lot off of Grannan Lane behind Port City Royale. There is a parking lot which is kind of tucked away. When you go back there, it kind of has 360 brick. It’s got this true Saint John grit,” Ough said.
The 2019 event had more than 20,000 people so they knew it needed more space this year.
The bazaar has been extended to include the corner of Princess and Prince William and it’s also where people will find a giant, inflatable Mars.
Ough said it’s seemed natural with Mars being “on everyone’s periphery” in terms of planetary exploration.
“‘What if we do Mars?’ Humans have been to the moon and the next logical place to go is probably Mars. It’s a really interesting looking planet,” Ough said.
Moonlight Bazaar: Back to the Solar System features music, art and food and runs from 4 p.m. til late on Saturday.
Event organizers would like attendees to buy drink tokens in advance if they can.
Tokens can be purchased at Five and Dime at 12 Grannan Street.
