New Brunswick’s premier has condemned the violent actions that Russia has taken against Ukraine.
Premier Blaine Higgs made the remarks during a COVID-19 briefing on Thursday afternoon.
Higgs said New Brunswick supports the federal government and all of the sanctions it is taking against Russia.
“We also support the actions taken by Canada to support Ukraine in any way possible to support our allies and sending troops or resources of any kind to be deployed in Europe in support of NATO,” said Higgs.
There are more than 3,500 New Brunswick residents that are of Ukrainian descent, and some of them were born in Ukraine, he said.
“I can’t imagine how hard it is to watch what is happening, worrying about your family members, worrying about what comes next, and trying to stay in constant contact,” said Higgs.
“I want you to know that all New Brunswickers, as well as all Canadians, stand with you and oppose the actions of Russia.”
Higgs added the province must stay united with its allies and resist any act of aggression that threatens world peace.
