An upgrade is coming soon for a Saint John park.
On Monday, Nov 1, The city’s common council approved the plan for phase one of the Dominion Park Master Plan revitalization project, which is contingent on the approval of $865,000 from the City’s 2022 capital budget program.
President of the Dominion Park Community Association, Derek Chaisson, said phase one will eliminate the temporary facilities that are already on site.
“By replacing it with a permanent building that will have washrooms, change rooms, a canteen area, a lifeguard station, as well as some storage.”
“It also focuses on remediating the land that the previous canteen was once set on … so we will be installing a Sunset Plaza which is seating for the community to view the sunsets or to just utilize for a day at the beach,” added Chaisson.
The cost of the Sunset Plaza was reduced from $1.8 million to $1.04 million as part of a design review.
Changes included the type of materials used and a redesign of the building and Plaza.
Phase one of the project should begin in Spring 2022, with plans already in place for the development of phases two and three.
