On Monday, Oct. 4, Saint John Common Council discussed an application brought forward by Steepleview Developments Inc. and Hughes Surveys and Consultants Inc.
The application is for the construction of a mixed-use building with 56 units at 31 Cliff Street.
Marke Reade, senior city planner at the city, said at the meeting the building will be split equally between market rent and subsidized units.
“It will also include a two license daycare, as well as some space on the ground floor for the Knights of Columbus.”
“It’s also approximate to services in the uptown core as well as Prince Edward Square, and various amenities such as King’s Square and other neighbourhood parks,” Reade added.
The application does require a portion of the site to be rezoned from Major Community Facility to Urban Centre Residential.
Last month, the city’s Planning Advisory Committee approved a variance allowing excavation to begin before the rezoning approval so work can begin this construction season.
The application will go to the third reading at Common Council at a later date.
