Beginning September 21 at 11:59 p.m., New Brunswickers 12 and older will have to provide proof of vaccination to enter several non-essential businesses.
After hearing the announcement, the CEO of the Saint John Region Chamber, David Duplisea, said that the organization is not surprised about the government’s decision.
“Also, what I’m hearing from hearing from our members as well is that it’s not a surprise to them as many of them were prepared for this.”
Duplisea also brought up that the majority of the Chamber’s members are in support of this system because they just want to return to normal operations.
“Because they’ve gone from having to ask for all contact information from every visitor down to a proof of vaccination, so in some cases, it might be a little simpler than it was prior.”
However, there are concerns regarding the timeline for businesses to set up signage and other requirements.
“I think it will play out whether or not there was enough time, many businesses now are calling us and they’re navigating in line with what the government has provided, and we are doing everything we can for our members.”
Duplisea added the Chamber is now waiting to see how the government will write the new guidelines into legislation.
“Are there any loopholes or any legal technicalities? That the members could be faced with, so that is where I’m hearing now that some of the concern is.”
