The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation will be a statutory holiday for municipal staff in Grand Bay-Westfield.
The town has become the latest municipality to recognize the new federal statutory holiday on Sept. 30.
In a news release, the town says truth and reconciliation remain a priority for council and providing staff the chance to reflect is an important step.
Flags at town facilities will be lowered on that day and the Community Centrum/Town Offices will be lit up in orange.
The new federal statutory holiday received Royal Assent in early June after it was passed unanimously in the Senate.
But the province announced that it will not treat the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a statutory holiday.
While federally regulated workplaces will be closed, all provincial services will remain open and it is up to individual private businesses and organizations to decide how they will mark the day.
