A former New Brunswick Liberal MP has decided to run for the leadership of the provincial Liberal party.
T.J. Harvey, who represented the riding of Tobique-Mactaquac from 2015 until 2019, made the announcement in Fredericton today.
Harvey told party supporters how the province is falling behind.
“The time for the status quo must end. For far too long, politicians have avoided the tough issues, the tough decisions, where they have talked the big talk, while failing to walk the walk or to act, so to speak.”
Harvey says he wants to put the province back on track and be a leader who creates other leaders.
“I will be a leader who empowers New Brunswickers. I will seek out experts in their practice and trade. I will seek out leaders in all regions. I will seek out those who know their culture best. We need this to be a collective, collaborative effort. Each and every one who wants to contribute will be welcomed with open arms.”
Harvey is the first individual to enter the leadership race.
Dieppe MLA Roger Melanson has served as interim leader since Kevin Vickers left politics last fall after he failed to win a seat in last September’s provincial election.
