The mayor of Saint John says he is working from home as he awaits the results of a COVID-19 test.
Mayor Don Darling said he first started experiencing mild symptoms Friday evening, which included a cough, some stiffness, headache and a sore throat.
In a blog post, Darling said he immediately self-isolated as a precaution and registered for a COVID-19 test, which he received Sunday evening.
“My symptoms have not worsened, nor do I know if this isn’t just a common cold, flu or simply exhaustion,” said Darling in the post, which he shared to social media.
“I do know that COVID-19 is to be taken very seriously and that it can have severe implications in some cases.”
The mayor said he will continue to work from home until given a clear test and “in full accordance with Public Health directives.”
Zone 2, which includes Saint John, had 35 active cases of COVID-19 as of Sunday, with 31 of those cases reported since Wednesday.
Darling encouraged residents to wash their hands, wear a mask, physical distance and keep their circle of direct contacts small.
“It is important that we all act in the best interest of our community, our families and ourselves,” he said.
I just published Covid is real, it’s serious and plays no favorites https://t.co/qIbtD14qMS
