It has been a difficult year for comedians and other performers in the province, because of COVID-19.
Founder of the HubCap Comedy Festival Marshall Button says the pandemic meant for months, the live theatres sat empty.
“We are told that two of the biggest ways that the virus can be spread are through singing and laughter, so a couple of strikes there. Of course, the whole social distancing thing. In order for comedy to be successful, you need to be in a crowded room, shoulder to shoulder, in the dark. Laughter is contagious,” Button says.
The HubCap Comedy Festival is going ahead this year, and it feature almost 100 per cent New Brunswick talent, in support of those who have struggled over the past five months.
The lineup features Nikki Payne, James Mullinger, Luc LeBlanc, Candy Palmater, Tim Steeves, Julien Dionne, Lucien and Jimmy the Janitor and more.
“The most powerful thing we can do is get together and laugh,” Button says.
The shows will feature a mix of live and virtual performances by the guest artists. But the Festival has also partnered with the Government of New Brunswick, to allow the event to go virtual, “There are fewer than 300 seats available at the Capitol Theatre, but there is an unlimited number of virtual tickets available to comedy fans across New Brunswick,” Button says.
There are three shows, on October 2, 3 and 17th.
