NDP leader Mackenzie Thomason is criticizing the Liberals and PCs for what he calls a forced, rushed election.
The statement comes after Liberal candidate John Gardner and PC candidate Roland Michaud were ousted from their respective parties.
The candidates were removed after offensive social media posts were discovered over the weekend.
Thomason says the decision to hold a snap election led to a failed vetting process by Blaine Higgs and Kevin Vickers.
He called the party leaders ‘desperate’ to fill their candidate list, to the point that they didn’t consider how the impact of calling a snap election could impact New Brunswickers.
“This points to a rather obvious conclusion that racism, sexism, trans and homophobia are very much still present in New Brunswick,” Thomason said in a statement issued by his party.
“We should be investing in cultural sensitivity and awareness campaigns so we can work towards eliminating these regressive and hateful comments.”
