Weather wreaked havoc across the province on Sunday.
Environment Canada meteorologist Stephen Hatt says around 15 centimetres, mostly ice pellets, fell in the Saint John region.
Hatt says it was unusual to have such an extended length of time with that form of precipitation.
“Usually with ice pellets, you will get it as a transition from snow to rain, or transition from snow to ice pellets and then maybe freezing rain or rain. To get an extended period of ice pellets, it doesn’t happen all that often,” said Hatt.
The southern areas of the province got off easier than in the north. Bathurst received around 20 centimetres of snow and Edmundston received around 27 centimetres.
Motorists were advised throughout the days to avoid travel.
At one point, travel was not recommended on the Trans-Canada Highway between the Quebec border and Moncton.
Several flights were delayed or cancelled at the Saint John Airport due to the weather.
