If all goes according to plan, Quispamsis will have a traffic circle at the Gondola Point arterial and Squire Drive.
The high traffic area regularly has collisions and residents have been asking for safety measures.
Premier Blaine Higgs making the announcement along with Transportation Bill Oliver at Quispamsis town office.
Gary Losier is the director of engineering and works for the town of Quispamsis and he tells us 40,000 people travel in this area every day.
“When you break that down, in the side streets you would have anywhere from 10 to 12,000. The {Gondola Point} ferry does generate the bulk of the traffic in the north/south direction on the arterial.” Losier said.
Losier says the town has some traffic circles now.
“This would be the first highway level roundabout in the area. Fredericton has local streets intersected by highways.” Losier said.

Quispamsis Deputy Mayor Libby O’Hara says council has been working on a solution for this intersection for many years.
Traffic lights were considered but, provincial and municipal engineering staff agreed a roundabout is the preferred method for traffic control in this area.
The estimated cost is $1 million with the Department of Transportation contributing $650-thousand and the town paying the remaining 35 percent.
It’s expected the work will start next June.
