There will be a lot of construction going on this spring, summer and fall at Saint John Airport.
Today's the day! We're starting the major portion of our runway restoration. This means we'll be closing down Runway 05-23 until May 20th so that we can install centreline lighting.💡

Major refurbishments are being done on all the runways, starting with the long runway according to President and CEO Derrick Stanford.
” For the next two weeks our longer instrument runway is closed so that the construction crews can bury the wiring for new high intensity LED centre line lighting to be installed they will be working non-stop until May the 20th,” stated Stanford.
A week later they will then close down another runway according to Stanford.
” We will completely refurbish the shorter runway and install high intensity LED lighting
down the sides, put down new asphalt, drainage and new painting”
Then in late August it will be the long runway getting a total refurbishment.
Stanford says they are also adding buffer zones.
” We are also installing runway end safety areas at the end of each runway which are sort of little runoff zones in case a plane was to overshoot the runway.”
The safety zones are the reason no sliding was allowed on the airport hill this past winter because of all the rocks and material that had to be moved to make way for the zones.
Stanford says it is their intentions to have no flight disruptions during this time, but that of course is all up to nature.
