Saint Johners stepped up to support a Syrian woman bring her mother and two brothers to the city from Jordan.
A crowdfunding effort to raise the final $10,000 needed was raised over two days last week.
Reham Abazid has been living in the city for a few years and would like to have more family with her.
We asked her about the next step in this process.
“Now I’m waiting to hear from them because they are waiting for a call about health assessments that’s the next step and after that, in five weeks they will be here,” Abazid says.
Abazid says the health assessments are conducted at the Canadian embassy and her family members were told they can expect to be called in between three weeks and three months.
More than $30,000 has been raised in total and Abazid tells us they are also working on bringing her husband’s family to Saint John.
Abazid says she and her sister were jumping when they saw the crowdfunding total and when they told her family they are crying really hard and they couldn’t believe the money was raised so quickly.
