Local non-profit ACAP Saint John will launch its neighbourhood climate change adaptation plan — Adapt SJ– on Wednesday night.
AdaptSJ will act as a toolkit for residents and business owners, with tips on how to make sustainable changes in their lives.
ACAP executive Director Graeme Stewart-Robertson says this can be from the way we heat our homes to the food we eat.
“How can we work collaboratively together to grow not only our community of resourceful and compassionate global citizens, but to improve our quality of life along the way,” he said.
Stewart-Robertson says the goal of the project is to adapt Saint John to the upcoming and current impacts of climate change.
“Climate change in Saint John, being a coastal community, is that we have a lot of vulnerabilities and risks,” he said in an interview.
“Not just from our physical geography and the state of our ecosystems, but the state of our human communities as well.”
He says ACAP hopes to have a municipal climate adaptation plan ready by 2020.
“At this point, speaking about this 12 to 14 months from now, I believe we will have one of the best plans of any municipality in the country.”
The launch will take place at the Five and Dime at 7 PM tonight.
