It’s one of the newer traditions leading up to Remembrance Day.
Veterans Banners have become very popular in the region.
The Facebook page for the Hampton Rural Cemetery is sharing pictures of some of their banners and volunteer Sharon Dunlop-McEwen added mini-biographies for some of the soldiers buried there.
“[I] thought let’s do a little something on the ones that are in the cemetery that I volunteer in to bring awareness of who they are and what they did for us,” says Dunlop-McEwan. “People are really enjoying the stories.”
Grand Bay-Westfield, Norton, Sussex, Rothesay and Quispamsis all have the banners now. Saint John added 43 banners this year for a total of 136.
