It will look a little different this summer when you walk into the Garcelon Civic Center in St. Stephen.
Director of Parks and Recreation, and Project Coordinator, Michael O’Connell says the Sports Wall of Fame will take up the right side wall in the main lobby.
He says the Wall will feature the sports heroes of St. Stephen and surrounding areas, with six inductees being honored in its first year, another six next year, and 3 each year after that.
“We’re finally at the point we have most of the details worked out. We have the date of our banquet will be May 13th, here at the Civic Center. We have six inductees that will be put in the first year, and another five next year. Notice how the eleven are from the New Brunswick Sports Hall of Fame, so we decided as a group to automatically put them in first.”
The first six inductees are Dorothy Brockway, Duncan McGeachy, William Greenough, Don Sweeney, Rod Wilson, and Thomas Stewart.
He says construction on the Wall will begin soon, and it will feature beautiful portraits from a local artist.
“One of our board members, Jeff McGinn, is the artist who will be doing all the portraits for the wall. And as well, every inductee will get a portrait to take with them.”
