NB Power is seeking a five year licence renewal for the Point Lepreau nuclear power plant.
The Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission has called the plant “seismically robust” and that’s a good thing.
Paul Doucet with NB Power says the main focus of the plant is to ensure safety and to also address equipment reliability and preventive maintenance.
Doucet says this way, they can predict when their equipment is going to fail so they know what to expect before it happens.
The plant has surpassed 5.5 million man hours without an accident.
He says there’s only 440 nuclear plants in the world and says the safest plants are the best ones.
Doucet hopes to hear back sometime in June regarding the licence renewal.
