Saint John’s five newest police officers received their badges at a swearing in ceremony today.
Officers Sherry Ring, Joel Foster, Joseph Arsenault, Jonathan Grenier and Cole Gallant were all sworn in today at the Saint John Police headquarters at Peel Plaza.
The Saint John area isn’t new for Officer Foster, who’s originally from Quispamsis and has been working in Nova Scotia for the past seven years.
Foster says he’s excited to be home and looks forward to protecting the citizens of Saint John.
Police Chief John Bates says the department’s goal was to hire the very best people they could, and then teach them how to be police officers.
He says the need for the hires was clear and hopes they all have very “long and fruitful policing careers”.
Bates says strength of character and doing the right things at the right times are key attributes of a good police officer.
