A pathologist from the Saint John Regional Hospital testifying at the second-degree murder trial of Dennis Oland that Richard Oland, Dennis’ father, sustained both sharp incised injuries and blunt force injuries. His battered body was discovered in his investment firm in uptown Saint John face down in a pool of blood.
Dr. Ather Naseemuddin, who conducted Richard Oland’s autopsy, was asked by the Crown to make a conclusion about the nature of the weapon used to kill Richard Oland. Dr. Naseemuddin testifying that he can say that the injuries were inflicted using two separate surfaces.
The jury has heard that there were 49 injuries to Richard Oland’s body was 40 of those injuries to his head and neck area. Dr. Naseemudding speaking about the injuries to Richard Oland’s hands, describing them as sharp force injuries which also resulted in the breakage of bones.
Dr. Naseemuddin testifying that six, round, blunt-force injuries had a faint cross-hatching pattern on them.
The weapon was never found.
It’s expected that Dr. Naseemuddin will be back on the stand on Friday morning at the Saint John law courts to continue his testimony.
